About the Artist

Eileen Strickland is a recognized award winning portrait artist. Prolific and enthusiastic, painting has become her passion, especially creating a personalized painting for someone. Her medium preference is oil. Eileen is known for her exacting detail, vivid color, and realistic style. She creates her paintings from a drawing on canvas using a photograph as her reference. After the subject is sketched on canvas she establishes three values with a Yellow Ochre wash and begins the proess of adding transparent oil glazes. During her 26 years of art experience, she enjoys painting subject variety but finds portraits facinating and fun. Eileen has been commissioned to paint more than 200 paintings. She has also painted several wall murals.

Eileen studied with several local artists and nationally known artists such as David Weaver, Luanna Winner, Peggy Baumgaertner, and Robert Way. She is a member of Artists League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen, North Carolina and exhibits in local art shows. She is an art instructor at the Artists League of the Sandhills and offers private art lessons to students in her studio. Her art hangs in private and public collections in Arizona, California, South Carolina, and throughout North Carolina. Her work is displayed at locations below.

2005 - The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award from Governor Mike Easley- Received
          upon retirement from state government position at McCain Hospital in
         recognition of extraordinary dedicated services and contributions of her art
         work to the state agency.
2009 - 2nd Place Award in a Juried Show at the Artist League for oil portrait of
          her son,"Eric Strickland."
       - Honorable Mention Award for oil seascape, "The Salt Run Inlet."
2010 - 3rd Place Award in a Juried Show at the Artist League for oil portrait of
         her granddaughter, "Ashlyn."
2010 - People's Choice Award in Annual Artist League November Show for horse
         portrait in oil "Waiting for an Apple"
2011- Best in Show Award and People's Choice Award in Absolutely Art Juried Show
         at the Artist League of the Sandhills for oil portrait "Let's Play Catch."
2011- 1st Place Award in Absolutely Art Juried Show at the Artist League of the
         Sandhills for oil portrait "Bubbles."
